As a part of our mandate, the College develops or revises regulations, policies, standards and practice guidelines necessary to regulate the profession.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This process often includes an amount of time where we consult with the public, members of the profession, other health regulatory colleges, professional associations and educators. The College carefully considers all feedback. Your input helps us understand the effectiveness and impact of proposed changes, and helps ensure decisions are being made in the public interest<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Consultation on Draft Code of Ethics and Guide to the Code of Ethics<\/div>\n

The College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario (COTO) sought feedback on the draft Code of Ethics<\/a><\/strong> and accompanying Guide to the Code of Ethics<\/a><\/strong>. These documents were developed in collaboration with the Association of Occupational Therapy Regulatory Organizations (ACOTRO) and tailored to practice in Ontario. The draft Code of Ethics will guide ethical and professional practice for all occupational therapists in Ontario, regardless of practice area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The consultation closed February 2, 2026. Feedback from registrants, system partners, and members of the public will directly inform the final version of the Code and Guide that will be presented to the Board in early 2026.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Consultation on Proposed Amendments to Bylaws – Part 18: Fees<\/div>\n
\n \n \n \n <\/svg>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n

Following review of feedback from the 60-day public consultation, the Board approved the proposed amendments to Part 18 of the College bylaws<\/a> related to fees which supports the College to increase fees up to 2% each year for five years. It was determined that a $15 increase would be implemented for the 2024\/2025 annual renewal period. We thank registrants for their input to the consultation. A summary of key themes and comments is available on pages 99-105 of the January 2024 Board package.<\/a>

The Board previously approved a year-over-year registration fee increase of between 1% and 2% for a period of no more than five years during the January 11, 2023 Board meeting. The bylaws enacting this increase were circulated for consultation.<\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n\n\n\n\n \n\n

Surveying registrants, staff, and members of the public was a key part of developing our 2024-2027 strategic plan. Key themes that emerged from the surveys we conducted in September 2023 were shared in December 2023.

The College\u2019s 2024-2027 Strategic Priorities<\/a> were approved by the Board and came into effect on June 1, 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Emergency Class of Registration Consultation<\/div>\n

Following a review of consultation feedback, the Board approved the draft emergency class registration regulation which was circulated to registrants and system partners as required. More than 200 respondents provided feedback during the 60-day consultation period. The draft regulation will now be submitted to the Ministry of Health for review as required. Thank you all for taking the time to provide your feedback.<\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n <\/div>\n\n\n\n\n \n\n

The Standards for Practice Consultation closed on June 30, 2022. All stakeholder feedback from the survey will now be reviewed. Findings from the consultation will be used to inform final revisions to the Standards. The revised Standards will be presented to the Board for review in October 2022. The consultation on the revised Standards for Psychotherapy closed on July 5, 2021. All stakeholder feedback from the survey will now be reviewed by the College and Practice Issues Subcommittee. Findings from the consultation will be used to inform final revisions to this Standard. The Standards will be presented to Executive and when approved, Council, before final edits, formatting and translation prior to publication.
