For their learning plan, occupational therapists must set goals related to the <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.coto.org\/resources\/competencies-for-occupational-therapists-in-canada\/\" data-type=\"resource\" data-id=\"1279\">Competencies for Occupational Therapists in Canada<\/a><\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are the top 5 competencies selected by OTs when setting their goals:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Culture, equity and justice:<\/strong> Promote culturally safer, anti-oppressive and inclusive practice<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Record keeping:<\/strong> Maintain professional documentation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Contribute: <\/strong>Contribute to the learning of OTs and others<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Learn: <\/strong>Ongoing learning and professional development<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Leadership: <\/strong>Show leadership in the workplace<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n\n<\/div>\n    <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"content-section-block has-fade-in-up  align wp-block-acf-content-section\" id=\"section-getting-started\">\n    <div class=\"section-header \">\n        <h2>Getting started<\/h2>\n            <\/div>\n\n    <div class=\"content-section\" aria-hidden=\"false\">\n        <div class=\"acf-innerblocks-container\">\n\n<p>Starting with a meaningful goal is key. Occupational therapists can use questions like these to guide the development of their goals:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>What are the new or emerging needs in my practice?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What knowledge and skills would help to address these emerging needs?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>What have I seen from others that I would like to incorporate into my practice?<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Is there feedback from clients, colleagues, or supervisors that can inform my goals?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<\/div>\n    <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"content-section-block has-fade-in-up  align wp-block-acf-content-section\" id=\"section-great-goal-statements\">\n    <div class=\"section-header \">\n        <h2>Great goal statements <\/h2>\n            <\/div>\n\n    <div class=\"content-section\" aria-hidden=\"false\">\n        <div class=\"acf-innerblocks-container\">\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Clinical Practice<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-off-white-background-color has-background\"><em>\u201cTo expand my skill set, in the next 6 months, I will complete 5 Initial Neurology Assessments with clients that have experienced work-related concussions. I will assess my progress by meeting with my supervisor to review my documentation and receive feedback for future assessments.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Non-Clinical Practice<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-off-white-background-color has-background\"><em>\u201cI will learn two new frameworks, strategies or perspectives pertaining to Indigenous peoples in Ontario that I can utilize towards supporting culturally safer practice in the clinic in the upcoming year.
