We looked at the\u00a0investigations\u00a0data from the last six months of\u00a02025\u00a0and this is what we found:\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Two of the competencies that come up&nbsp;frequently&nbsp;are:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>B.1 &#8211; Communicate in a respectful and effective manner&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A.1 &#8211;&nbsp;Establish&nbsp;trusted relationships with clients&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Three of the practice standards that come up&nbsp;frequently&nbsp;include:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Standard for Assessment &amp; Intervention&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Standard for Record Keeping&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Standard for Consent&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Let\u2019s\u00a0consider the\u00a0competencies B.1 and A.1 as well as the Standard for Assessment &amp; Intervention.\u00a0These core resources speak to principles including:\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Collaborating and communicating with clients&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Co-creating a plan&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Clarity around an occupational therapist\u2019s role&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Confirming client\u2019s understanding&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>When you think about these principles, are there areas where you could enhance your practice? The College produces case studies, resources and learning modules to support quality practice and&nbsp;frequently&nbsp;addresses questions about these areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Access&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.coto.org\/resources\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">resources<\/a> online or contact&nbsp;<a href=\"mailto:practice@coto.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">practice@coto.org<\/a>&nbsp;with your questions.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In case you missed it, the College\u2019s most recent&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.coto.org\/resources\/learnings-from-a-complaint-about-equipment-funding\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Case Study: Learnings From a Complaint About Equipment Funding<\/a>&nbsp;provides insight into the importance of effective communication. This case was&nbsp;developed to&nbsp;assist&nbsp;occupational therapists with explaining their reasons for recommendations, how to review goals with clients, and preventing misunderstandings and unmet expectations.
